Mafia 3 is probably my favorite in the trilogy. The story progression is great, and the gameplay is quite fun. I enjoyed all the characters. It's a little longer and repetitive but the big "missions" are really memorable and fun to play. Some are on par with mafia 1&2. I do think the world in the first two are more immersive. Especially in mafia 2.
The Mafia 3 engine is completely fine now that it has been improved and retooled for Mafia DE. Digital Foundry just uploaded a video praising how gorgeous the game looks, and with at least 2 months until release (preview build was from July), the team has enough time to make improvements to the animations.

Same here. Too dark at night. I can't see the road in front of the headlights, and nothing if I'm not near a lamp. GTX 1060. Mafia DE is a full blown remake. Completely remade (obviously) from the ground up. Same story and characters, etc. as the original Mafia 1 - but in a brand new engine with brand new gameplay, graphics, voice acting, etc. And yes it is worth it. 100%. Mafia 2 DE is a remaster.

It does differ pretty substantially. Spoilers abound: -If you leave, Lincoln basically disappears, moving from city to city and eventually returning (allegedly) to a life of crime working under a colombian gang or somesuch. Whichever of your underbosses is most powerful ends up ruling the city.
