After you remove the screw remove the two clips and the front housing comes off. To remove the fan you just release the spring clip at the lower part of the fan motor. P.S. When removing the fan you have to snake it out through the passenger side of the opening. Be carful not to break the fan, its plastic.

I have my car scheduled for the recall. I had removed the blower motor unit to check for debris and replaced the cabin filter. I put it back together and now the heater a/c (nothing to do with fan motor) works. I only learned of the harness recall while trying to figure out why my fan blower motor stopped.
The heater may stop working in BMW 5 Series due to low coolant level or air in the cooling system, clogged heater core, bad thermostat, faulty blend door actuator, bad water pump, dirty cabin air filter, bad blower motor, or HVAC control unit malfunction. 1. Set the cabin heat to 90 or so, then put your had on the aux pump motor and feel if it running. However that doesn't mean it's pumping coolant thru it. You can unplug the connector on the front by the solenoid valves, this will open both valves. If coolant is circulating you should be able to feel the hoses getting hot.

What works: All controls seem to work. Blower seems to work fine (blows air the same) All settings (feet, body, defrost, etc) all work. What doesn't work: Even at 91degrees, it's freezing. No hot air at all. Details: The odd thing is, every so often, for whatever reason, the heat will kick on, but it's rare.
It seems to be more prominent when I first start off - even with the blower/fan at a low speed setting, I have a quite loud squeaking sound coming out of it! It's a bit like chirping crickets. Goes off after a while, and then seems to return a little intermittently, even with the fan at the same speed. Car is a 2007 E90 330i.

It would stop blowing even when on the highest setting, sometimes it would come on after awhile and sometimes if I hit a bump in the road it would come on. I replaced the heater blower resister with a new one, it worked perfect the next day.
